The Best of Singapore is an editorial guide to finding good places, useful services and products worth knowing about in Singapore.
We publish practical guides for the decisions people actually make here: where to eat, what to buy, where to bring the kids, which services to compare, what is worth paying for and which places deserve a closer look.
Singapore does not suffer from a lack of choice. The harder part is working out which options are genuinely relevant to you. That is what we try to help with.
What we do
The Best of Singapore researches and publishes guides across food and drink, shopping, beauty and wellness, parenting and family life, things to do, home and everyday services, and other parts of living in Singapore.
You will find broad guides such as the best places in Singapore for a particular need, but we are increasingly interested in the more specific questions that are often more useful:
- Where should you go if you have a particular budget?
- Which option is easiest with young children?
- Is the premium version actually worth paying for?
- Which places are convenient for a particular part of Singapore?
- What should you know before booking, buying or visiting?
- Has something changed since a recommendation was first published?
A useful recommendation needs more than a long list of businesses. Wherever possible, our guides explain why an option made the list, who it suits and what its trade-offs are.
How we choose what to recommend
There is no single formula that works for every guide.
Depending on the subject, our editorial team may consider factors including pricing, location, range, accessibility, service, specifications, published policies, current availability, customer experience, suitability for different users and first-hand editorial experience where we genuinely have it.
For factual information that can change — such as prices, opening hours, products, programmes and services — we check current sources and update guides when material information changes.
Where a recommendation is based primarily on research rather than personal experience, we aim to make that distinction clear.
We would rather tell you how we reached a conclusion than simply describe something as “the best”.
First-hand experience, research and sources
Some of our guides include places, services or products that our editors have personally visited, used or handled. When first-hand experience materially informs a recommendation, we may record those details in the article.
Not every recommendation can or should rely on personal testing, however.
For research-led guides, we may compare official business information, product specifications, menus and price lists, booking information, public records, primary sources and other relevant evidence.
Individual articles may also include:
- a research or methodology note;
- first-hand editorial observations;
- primary or authoritative sources;
- a fact-check or review date;
- a named reviewer where relevant;
- commercial disclosures; and
- correction or update notes.
We do not label desk research as personal experience.
Keeping our guides current
Singapore changes quickly. Restaurants close, prices move, services change hands and yesterday’s excellent deal can quietly become considerably less excellent.
We therefore treat our guides as living editorial pages rather than one-off articles.
Publication and update dates appear on our guides where relevant, and older recommendations may be removed or changed when the underlying information no longer supports them.
If you spot something that has changed, you can contact us. Useful corrections are always welcome.
Singapore Signals
We also measure how readers use The Best of Singapore through our Singapore Signals project.
Signals can include aggregated guide activity, Readers’ Pick votes and reactions, and recognised AI-agent requests to our content.
These numbers help us understand what readers are actually looking for and which guides are proving useful.
They do not determine our editorial recommendations.
A business does not become a Best of Singapore pick simply because it receives more clicks, votes or attention.
Who publishes The Best of Singapore?
The Best of Singapore is part of The Tofu Media Group, an independent media group that creates and operates useful editorial properties across areas including local discovery, parenting, travel and everyday life.
The group gives us a broader editorial home while The Best of Singapore retains its own focus: helping people make better choices in Singapore.
Our articles are written and edited by the The Best of Singapore editorial team and named contributors, with author information provided where appropriate.
Editorial independence and commercial relationships
Publishing a useful website costs money, so The Best of Singapore may carry advertising, affiliate links, sponsored content or other commercial partnerships.
Commercial arrangements do not buy inclusion in our independent editorial recommendations or determine the order of our picks.
Where a commercial relationship is material to an article, we aim to disclose it clearly.
Sponsored or paid material should be identifiable as such rather than presented as an independent recommendation.
What we mean by “best”
“Best” is rarely an objective fact.
The best restaurant for a birthday dinner is not necessarily the best one for a quick lunch. The best stroller for public transport may not be the best stroller for long walks. The cheapest service may not offer the best value.
Our aim is therefore not to declare one universal winner.
We try to identify the strongest options for different circumstances, explain why they stand out and give you enough information to decide what is best for you.
Reader recommendations
Some of our best leads come from readers.
If there is a neighbourhood business, hawker stall, service, product or place you think deserves our attention, tell us about it.
A reader recommendation does not guarantee inclusion, but it can prompt our editors to take a closer look.
Corrections
Accuracy matters more to us than pretending we never get anything wrong.
If you notice an incorrect price, closed business, outdated service, factual error or other material problem in one of our guides, please contact us and include the relevant page.
We review substantive corrections and update articles where appropriate.
Our aim
The Best of Singapore exists to make choosing a little easier. Not by producing the longest list on Google, and not by declaring everything “must-visit”.
We want to tell you what is worth considering, why it might suit you, what you should know before choosing it and when another option might be better.
